The Crimson Road IV - BBATTL Major

Mensaje  Lembocha el Sáb Mar 16, 2013 10:03 pm

The original BBATTL Major is back! Sturm von Stahl is proud to present the Crimson Road IV. MME has once again spared no expense for the fourth running of this grand tournament. Blood Bowl fans will no doubt remember the first Crimson Road, held in the halfling town of Big Hill and sponsored by the firm of Taggum & Bagham: The Finest Morticians in the Mootland and Beyond. With the second running of the event, T&B were replaced as main sponsor by the Cabal Vision giants Mesozoic Media Empire, although the morticians continue to provide sponsorship in the form of the prestigious Good for Business Award. The same sponsors return for this year's Major, and T&B look forward to laying your most beloved players to a peaceful rest.

So without further ado, Mesozoic Media Empire and Sturm Von Stahl invite the Blood Bowl world to step on up…

…and come walk the Crimson Road!

TOURNAMENT RULES

Team TV Limits

In order to be eligible to compete in a BBATTL Major tournament, a team must have a minimum TV of 1400 (Goblin & Halfling teams are exempt from this rule). The Major tournaments draw teams from all across the Blood Bowl world, and only those with the experience to compete or even simply survive against the very best are good enough to enter. There is no maximum TV cap for a BBATTL Major tournament.

Note that this minimum 1400 TV includes the value of any players that will miss their next game due to injury – they are still part of the team, and therefore they should be counted towards the limit. The TV limit also includes the value of any journeymen, should you have less than eleven rostered players. So if you have only nine players, for example, then you should factor the cost of two journeymen linemen (or equivalent) into your TV when determining if you make the 1400 TV minimum.

How many teams will be participating?

Due to the nature of the qualifying round, and the extreme level of interest this tournament will no doubt draw, there is no limit to the number of teams that may participate in the initial stage of the tournament. The only requirement is that an even number of teams sign up.

Initial Stage? Qualifying Round?

Yes, the Crimson Road tournament will consist of three distinct stages:

The first stage is the qualifying round. All teams will be divided into two groups, based on coach timezone. As much as is humanly possible, those coaches with U.S.-friendly timezones will be placed in one qualifying group while those with Europe-friendly timezones will be placed in the second qualifying group. The qualifying stage will last for three weeks, and the in-game league system will be used to generate a full schedule for each group, ONLY THE FIRST THREE WEEKS OF WHICH WILL ACTUALLY BE PLAYED. In other words, even though each qualifying group may be, for example, 20 teams strong, only the first three weeks of the nineteen-week schedule such a league would typically generate will actually be played. Therefore each team will play three randomly-assigned opponents during this qualifying round, and not all teams will play each other at this stage. The teams you're drawn against could all be stone cold killers, or a bunch of halfling pub teams, it's simply the luck of the draw...

All replays must be uploaded to Blood Bowl Manager following the game, as the results uploaded there will determine which teams qualify for the next round of the tournament – the group stage.

The Group Stage

At the end of the three week qualifying period, those sixteen teams with the most points (see tie-breaker rules below) will qualify for the group stage. The group stage will consist of four groups of four teams, with teams seeded amongst the groups based on coach timezone wherever possible. Each team will play each other team in its group once. Each game will have a one week period assigned to it, for coaches to get the games played. Once all games in a week have been played, the league will be advanced to the next set of games.

The Playoffs

At the end of the group stage, the top two teams in each group will advance to an 8-team playoff. The initial round of this playoff will again be seeded by coach timezone wherever possible. The playoffs will proceed with overtime rules in place, if they should be needed, until a winner is determined. The winner of the playoff final will be crowned the winner of the Crimson Road!

Tie-Breakers

In keeping with the original Crimson Road format, as well as the violent mantra of Sturm Von Stahl, some uniquely-appropriate tie-breaker rules have been put into place. The original tournament sponsors were a firm of halfling morticians, and their business is fine wooden boxes, after all, and the dearly-departed contents therein. Therefore those teams that fill them most efficiently and frequently are understandably favored. Therefore, in situations where two or more teams finish either the qualifying stage or their individual group stage level on points, it will be the team/s with the most combined players killed – both BY their team and also suffered TO their own players – that will advance to the next round. Therefore a team that cannot murder its way out of a paper bag, but suffers untold fatalities to its own roster, will be looked upon more favorably in this case than a team that perhaps kills one or two opponents but doesn’t suffer any deaths themselves. Note that in order for these fatalities to count for this criteria, they must be recorded as such in BB Manager, either in the Serial Killer section of the Team Hall of Fame or in the tournament Graveyard. If additional tie-breaker criteria are required, they will be 1) total number of casualties inflicted, 2) TD difference, 3) TD’s scored, 4) Team Value.

The Glittering Prizes

There are four prizes that can be achieved by teams competing in the Crimson Road tournament:

• Tournament Winner: the winner of the final match will receive the respect of their peers, and a 240,000 GP prize!
• Taggum & Bagham Sponsorship: the winning team will also be sponsored by the firm of Taggum & Bagham as long as they hold onto the Crimson Road trophy - what this means is that for every subsequent BBATTL tounament in which the team kills an opposing player (until they fail to retain the trophy in a future Crimson Road, or do not participate in a future edition of the tournament), the team may request to be awarded 10,000 GP's per kill via proxy league after that tournament. These kills must be reported by the coach in question, and must be verifiable via BB Manager.
• Tournament Runner Up: the losing finalist will receive a 100,000 GP consolation prize.
• “Good For Business Award” – the team participating in the Crimson Road that achieves the distinction of the highest total number of opposing and own-team players killed during the course of the tournament will receive the “Good For Business” award from Taggum & Bagham, and a prize of 50,000 to 100,000 GP’s (10,000 GP’s per death, minimum of 50,000, maximum of 100,000 GP’s)! This prize money will be awarded to the team via a proxy league set up in the private league system for this purpose.

Blood Bowl Manager

A single league in BB Manager will be set up to record all games played in the Crimson Road tournament. It is a requirement that ALL replays be uploaded to BB Manager by one of the two coaches that play in each game. When determining which 16 teams qualify for the group stage, only matches that have been uploaded to BB Manager by the end of the three week qualifying period will count towards this determination – if the games aren’t there in BB Manager when we look, then they obviously cannot, and therefore will not, be counted. The onus then is very much on the winner of each match to make sure their replay gets uploaded, and in the case of a tie, it is up to the two coaches to make sure one of them uploads the replay. If you are unfamiliar with how BB Manager works, just ask for help and we will be glad to assist.

Summary

• Any number of teams can participate (must be divisible into two even-numbered qualifying divisions).
• A minimum TV of 1400 for entry (no minimum for Goblin & Halfling teams). There is no maximum TV.
• Teams will be divided into two qualifying groups, based on coach timezone. Each team will be matched against three others in the qualifying round. Replays must be uploaded to BB Manager.
• Top 16 teams (special tie-breaker rules apply) advance to the Group Stage.
• Group Stage: Four groups of four teams – each team plays each other in its group once.
• Top 2 teams in each group advance to the play-offs. Winner of playoff final is tournament winner.
• Prizes are 250,000 GP for the winning team, 100,000 GP for the runner-up, and 50,000-100,000 GP for the team with the highest total killed players – both killed opponents AND own players killed during the tournament. In addition, the tournament winner will be sponsored by Taggum & Bagham for as long as they retain the tournament trophy - this sponsorship pays out 10,000 GP's per kill inflicted on their opponents during a BBATTL event via a proxy league at the end of each subsequent event.

Any Questions?

Questions can be directed by PM to me, thegloater, or Mercy Flush.

Sign-up for the event can be found HERE. The tournament will commence on Friday 31st March.
